With an eye on helping America’s gardeners protect the environment, we introduced a new line of earth-friendly products several years ago under the “Going Greener for You” banner.
“Bonnie’s Going Greener for You” is a company-wide effort toward environmentally friendly products. We have a double goal for our greener mission. We’re dedicated to giving our customers earth-friendly products, but products that perform as well as or better than conventional products.
Included in the mission are:
- Exclusive biodegradable pots by Jiffy
- Jumbo biodegradeable fiber pots
- Recycling and reuse practices and facilities
Bonnie Biodegradable Pots
Our biodegradable pots are made by Jiffy from recyled paper and the same peat moss that is used to supplement garden soils and as an ingredient in premium potting mixes. The pots are 100 percent biodegradable. They prevent transplant shock by allowing the roots to remain intact from container to soil so that plants make an easier transition to the garden. The only pot of its kind available, Bonnie’s biodegradable Jiffy pots can be put into the soil “pot, plant, and all." Remove the label, tear off the bottom of the pot, and plant the whole thing. As the pot disintegrates it becomes part of the soil. Roots grow through the pot, too. You can see a video of how to plant our pots in the Learn and Grow library section of this website.
Bonnie’s exclusive biodegradable pots have prevented hundreds of millions of plastic pots from ending up in landfills. They've also dramatically reduced energy and petroleum required in the manufacture of plastic pots. Bonnie plants, grown in biodegradable pots, are available at garden centers all across the country. We are the country's largest wholesaler of vegetable and herb plants for home gardeners with plants grown in greenhouses in 62 locations around the country to respect regional differences and conditions.
Jumbo Fiber Pots
Bonnie’s Biodegradable Jumbo Fiber Pot is made of 100 percent recycled paper product. Like our smaller pots, the Jumbo Fiber Pot reduces energy and petroleum use and prevents millions of pounds of plastic from entering our landfills. Like our smaller pots, the fiber pots can also be planted directly into the soil, reducing plant shock and giving your plant a healthy head start. The fiber material quickly disintegrates, allowing the plant roots to grow into the surrounding soil.
Recycling Facility
Our recycling facility at our headquarters reuses and recycles supplies, tags, pots, and plant container trays.
