Onion Rings

These homemade onion rings are far better than anything you'll find when dining out. Dip large onion slices into this batter and fry until golden brown.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings.

Ingredients

  • 3 large onions, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying

Instructions

Soak the onion rings in a bowl of ice water for 30 minutes; drain well. Combine the flour, egg, milk, water, oil and salt in a bowl and mix well. Dip each onion ring in the batter and fry in hot oil until golden brown.
