A compact shrubby tropical, Mexican Heather is a great filler in containers and also makes a nice, blooming ground cover throughout the warm months.
Mexican Heather
Cuphea hyssopifolia
- Type: Annual
- Light: Sun to part shade
- Height: 12 to 24 inches
- Spacing: 18 inches
Lavender-pink flowers and tiny leathery leaves make a delightful combination on this compact plant that has become very popular for pots, window boxes, and other containers. Also use in mass as a seasonal ground cover.
Tolerant of most soil types as long as they drain well, Mexican Heather will bloom continuously through the warm months. It is easy to pinch or shear to maintain a desired shape, although it is not necessary.
