"Sweet as an apple" is the expression used to describe its mild flavor. Great fresh or grilled, but great raw, too. A short-day type. The bulb is thick and flattened. It is sometimes known as Maui or Noonday. Stores for about a month. For full-sized onions, set transplants 6 inches apart in rows 12 inches apart.
