Beauregard Sweet Potato

You'll give your regards to Beauregard after growing and eating this great sweet potato. Caramelizes nicely in the oven.

Beauregard Sweet Potato

 |
  • Vine type: semi-running
  • Matures: 95 days
  • Plant Size: Long 3- to 6-foot vine

Developed at Louisiana State University in 1987, this variety may be the world's most popular sweet potato. It is favored for high yields of uniform, reddish-purple potatoes with tasty, deep-orange flesh that keeps well in storage. It seems to have fewer problems with white grubs than some varieties and also resists cracking. Folks in Louisiana are proud of thier sweet potatoes and after tasting this one, you'll know why. Make sure that plants get plenty of sun to develop the maximum flavor and sweetness. Space plants 12 inches apart in rows 36 inches apart.

Resistant to fusarium wilt and soil rot, but not resistant to nematodes.

Some Bonnie Plants varieties may not be available at your local stores, as we select and sell varieties best suited to the growing conditions in each region.

Need more sweet potatoes shipped! Review by SteveB

I live in central NJ, near Allentown. Bonnie ships to all the Lowes and Home Depots around me- tomatoes, peppers and other things, but I have to search hard to find any sweet potatoes! Sweets are NOT just a southern crop! They grow great in the southern half of NJ, where the soil is sandier. Please send more sweets here! I hope someone from Bonnie's reads this. I have planted Beauregard for the last three years and have gotten great results. Some of them are huge. Last year I had one 7lbs 2oz . Looked like a foot ball. They where big but solid. They store very well. It is almost time to plant again and I have some left from last year in the basement (Posted on March 2, 2013)

I grew them for the greens I was out all summer and they grew in the whole garden and matched my ivy and i forgot about it then i saw all the rotten potatoes this year, but the greens taste bad like fish and wong bok. Hate It! Why doesnt bonnie plants sell Okinawa Sweet Potato slips they will make so much money with those unusual white lively purple tasty morsels. (Posted on December 26, 2012)

Can't wait to grow them again. Review by jalmal

I was told I could not grow sweet potatoes in NE Wisconsin, so I decided to try anyway. I planted late so we did not have a large yield, but the ones I did dig up were very large and so sweet. We just ate the last one this past week, March 18. I will definitely plant earlier this year. I can't wait. (Posted on March 20, 2012)
