Homestead Heirloom Tomato

An old favorite dating from 1954. Developed by the University of Florida especially for hot climates and known for its reliability to set fruit at high temperatures. Produces firm, meaty tomatoes. Large vines help shade fruit to protect from sunburn. Plants in our test garden, where the growing conditions are ideal, bear an average of 50 pounds of fruit over a 6 to 7 week period. Space plants 24 to 36 inches apart. Resistant to fusarium wilt (F).

I planted one of these in an old flower bed that used to be an iris bed. I put the plant in the ground later than I usually plant tomatoes and in no time it was flourishing. We had an incredible yield and I never fertilized even once during the summer. Just regular watering. No problems whatsoever. Will definitely buy again! (Posted on April 25, 2013)Taste Yield
