Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for cooking! Purple basil is not only a beautiful plant, it's also tasty. We saute it with onions when making a fried-egg sandwich! It raises this simple meal to a whole new level.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchased this variety on a whim from big chain hardware store. It did not like being transplanted and did not like desert heat. I thought it was going to die. It didn't ... it survived ... then it thrived ... then it self-propagated! Beautiful leaves can fluctuate in color from green to deep purple. The purple itself ranges from a deep rouge-purple to a iridescent violet-blue-purple. Flavor is exceptional; a noticeable spice over traditional sweet basil. The biggest bonus are the flowers should you choose not to pinch them. They are delicate pink teacups; impossibly precious. I too found self-propagated sprouts several feet away in multiple spots. I transplanted one and while it too struggled for a couple weeks, it is now bouncing back and thriving! The original is going better than ever too! My Bonnie Purple Basil provides my family with almost year round fresh flavor! An honest review from an excited gardener!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from We killed our purple basil: This is our first year getting into herbs. I'm not a flower person or gardener anyway, but I liked to do this. We got a purple basil plant and put it in a black wash pot along with some Creeping Thyme. The thyme is still around, but the purple basil got manhandled by the sun and a couple of harsh rains. But however, we're going to try again next year.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I had a friend who gave me a couple of purple basil plants. I don't do any kind of watering or anything maintenance wise. They just pop up and come back every year without my assistance. I even found plants growing in the rocks several feet away.
