PuckerButt Pepper Company

Things are Heating Up at Bonnie Plants®!

We’ve partnered with Smokin’ Ed Currie, founder of PuckerButt Pepper Company, to bring you Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper®: the World’s Hottest Chili Pepper.

Gardeners who dare to grow Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper®, the current record holder for the world’s hottest chili pepper, used to have just one choice: Start from seed and wait. And wait. And wait some more.

Good news: The wait is over! Now you can grow your own scorching-hot chilis, starting earlier in the season and reaching that all-important harvest time a lot sooner. Just skip the seeds and plant strong, young Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® starter plants, available exclusively from Bonnie Plants®.

Come harvest time, you’ll have peppers every pepperhead will envy, packed with heat and health benefits—not to mention the hottest garden in the neighborhood.

Meet the Mad Scientist Behind PuckerButt Pepper Company

Ed Currie isn’t your average gardener. A passionate pepperhead—and, some might say, devilish mastermind—Smokin’ Ed has spent nearly 40 years researching, growing, harvesting, and taste-testing the hottest peppers on the planet.

His obsession with growing super-hot peppers began with just a few plants in his home and garden. But Ed’s burning desire to invent even hotter chilis soon consumed his every waking moment, not to mention every available inch of his South Carolina backyard.

Ed’s USDA Organic farm grows hundreds of thousands of plants, including more than 100 varieties of hot peppers. It’s also home to PuckerButt Pepper Company®, the birthplace of the infamous Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper®, a fiery demon chili that’s so hot, it could scare a ghost pepper!

Just How Hot is Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper®?

There’s a reason Guinness World Records recognizes Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® as the world’s hottest chili pepper: It out-performs every other hot pepper on the Scoville Scale, which measures hot (and healthy) compounds called capsaicinoids in spicy foods. Heat levels are expressed in measurements called Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The higher the SHU, the bigger the burn.

Just one of these innocent-looking, unconventional beauties packs more than 1.5 million SHU. That’s about 10 habanero peppers. Or 60 serrano peppers. Or 400 to 800 jalapeno peppers. So, don’t say we didn’t warn you! The Carolina Reaper is full of flavor, but it’s not for the faint of heart (or palate).

There’s No Need to Start from Seed

Chili peppers keep getting hotter until they’re harvested, and Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® is no exception. For maximum spice and heat, these little red devils need to stay put on the plant as long as possible. That’s why it’s so important to get a jump start with Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® plants from Bonnie Plants, the exclusive retail grower for PuckerButt Pepper Company®. You’ll lengthen your growing season and shorten your time to harvest while ensuring maximum heat!
